Office Attire

Since beginning my job as a trainee solicitor (lawyer for my American readers), my Instagram has been full of requests for a work wear post.  However, I don't usually take much care with regards to snapping what I'm wearing during the week - a quick Instagram shot in my lounge mirror (usually with my washing hung up in the background) is as close as I'm going to get to a post on this, so here goes!  It's not all glitz and glam in the big city ;)

The majority of my work wardrobe consists of dresses. I adore fitted dresses for work. If you do too and you work in an office environment be sure that they're not too short and not too low.  Zara is my go-to for these kind of work-appropriate dresses. They are cool but classy. Hobbs and Reiss also have some beautiful work dresses too, albeit at a slightly higher cost.

In fact, Zara is my go to for most of my work attire which is probably why I don't blog about each outfit individually; you'd all be sick of me harping on about Zara the whole time!

My next stop when a dress just isn't cutting it for my mood are cigarette pants with a matching blazer and tailored shirt . Zara, once again, come up trumps for these kinda suits. The thing I loved about my suit (pictured above) was that it wasn't dark blue or black but a lovely, summery light grey. The beauty of Zara is they usually do both a skirt and trousers to match a suit jacket so you can double up!

My work shoes range from M&S and Louboutin, to (you guessed it) Zara. However, my pet hate is the kitten heel so I make sure they have a proper heel whilst still being comfy and durable. Who says form and function can't go hand in hand?

My work wear crush is Rachel Zane from 'Suits' (if you don't watch it, do). Every outfit she wears on set in her law firm is killer; shame we can't all have a stylist while we're roaming around the office huh?

  2. I've been loving your outfit posts on Instagram and it's nice to see you going into a bit more detail about them in your blog. My favourite is your black and white Zara dress, gorgeous and so effortlessly chic.

Hope your new job is going well.

  5. I am missing something in your wardrobe that I think would look great on you... High waisted pencil skirts! Almost as good as fitted dresses. Well, at least I think so! hehe :-)

  7. Thanks for sharing - my other top places for work wear (in addition to Zara!) are Aritzia (do you have that in the UK?) and J.Crew. Sometimes I will find cute stuff at Mango too. I have a pair of black Manolos that are great for the whole "desk to dinner" dilemma - they are office appropriate in height/style, but I can also wear them to dinner/drinks events after work.

  11. Hello, this is my first time visiting your blog and I think it's fab!
It's so great to see another blogger who is managing to balance a full time job with a blog - and how it's not all glitz and glamour but actually real life!
I love your work outfits and like you, absolutely adore Zara! I haven't quite saved up for some Louboutins but definitely agree with you when it comes to M&S shoes - affordable, stylish and comfortable! This week I've made the effort to wear heels each day and love how smart and classy I feel while wearing them - ready to take on the marketing world! Keep up the great blog and thank you for sharing - time to add a whole load of outfits to my payday list!! Have a great weekend xox

  12. Ahhhh I do love your work outfits. Love the black dress, and the black & white dress. I don't look at stylish/classy as I want to! I think I need to pay Zara a visit, although I have a very limited budget so it might be quite dangerous haha. That girl from Suits does always look great.

  13. I'm happy to see you blogging again! I "discovered" your blog from a previous favourite- which is very phony and annoying. Love the outfits, you are so classy- without having to buy a fake celine. xoxo.

  17. I love that you're back blogging and have also been looking at your outfit of the day posts on instagram.

I am due to start an internship next month and I was hoping that you could cover some of these issues:

    1. morning hair and makeup routine (I find that I lack time but want to look groomed and professional).

    2. I don't think my Louboutin's will be suitable since I am only an intern. I am looking for comfortable heels that I can wear all day (I only wear my heels for a few hours to dinner etc) do you have any recommendations? (I see that you referred to M&S above - could you recommend and specific styles?)

    3. Do you commute in heels, or do you change into them at the office?

    4. Do you think it is okay to wear my engagement ring to my internship? I am not yet married, but got engaged recently (after my internship interviews) and a few people have suggested to me that by wearing my ring (just under 3cts in a "halo" setting) I may signal that I have enough money not to have to work (I don't - my fiance is already established in his career plus it is a family diamond in the ring), and therefore may not be as motivated as others.

    5. Do you think a ceramic Chanel J12 watch (smallest size) is too bold for a professional office?

Sorry for all of the questions, I really want to make a good impression and know that for a lot of firms, it's about a lot more than just ability (as everyone who gets on the internship will be more than able due to the rigorous interview process!).

    1. I would be careful about flashing expensive bags, watches jewels etc. in an office setting. Trust me I know this from experience. If you outdress senior members of the company thats a no no aswell. People may not say anything but the sentiments of bitterness and jealousy are still there. I took a Birkin as a work bag and got lots of snide comments, stares, jealous looks and comments about how I could afford that as a trainee so I wouldn't go there with the J12 either !! :-)

  20. My flatmate and I were just talking about this the other day, how we weren't sure exactly what classified as too casual for the office and what would be too formal! These are great outfits, def have a better idea now.
